Holding Onto the Reins
In the beginning was the sphere with a surface of 2,500 square meters which is by no means flat. Rather, it is comprised of some 12,000 individual pyramids. The first step was to determine the exact dimensions of the surface as well as to measure temperatures and wind factors.
Next came the selection of suitable adhesive materials whose durability we tested in countless trial runs. The foil had to withstand extreme weather conditions, be easy to work with, and be completely removable after six months in place.
Our planning team of engineers and architects calculated the exact dimensions of the 12,000 individual pieces of this puzzle which had to be glued into their proper positions in a complicated logistical procedure.
